Upcycle Amstel
Sustainability efforts should be communicated as a means of opportunity. Our goal was to present upcycled materials in a way that competes with the existing industry. Working alongside visiting professor Kasper Jensen and a group of students, we wrote and published a booklet on the upcycling potential of an 80s office district. We studied material reuse in the building industry by visiting offices in Copenhagen that were pioneering the upcycling of construction materials. We explored challenges such as the storage of harvested materials, workable business models, and stakeholder analysis. One of our key findings was the importance of considering excess building stock as a material bank, showcasing the potential for material harvesting.
