Sustainability efforts should be communicated as a means of
opportunity. It was our goal to present upcycled materials in
a way that competes with the existing industry. With visiting
professor Kasper Jensen and a group of students we wrote and
published a small booklet about the upcycling opportunities
of an 80s office district. We studied material reuse in the
building industry by visiting offices in Copenhagen that were
pioneering with upcycling of construction materials.
We looked into the challenges ahead like: storage of
harvested materials, working business models, stakeholder
analysis. One of our findings was that we should start
considering excess building stock as a material bank and
show the opportunities to harvest materials.
