Plywood pendant light

Plywood pendant light

The Hop Lamp is a dynamic, intricately designed light fixture crafted from laser-cut plywood and developed using Grasshopper. Its organic, geometric structure is both functional and sculptural, casting intricate patterns of light and shadow. The precision of laser cutting combined with the flexibility of parametric design allowed for a seamless blend of artistry and engineering in its creation.

The robot painter is a 2-axis robot capable of reaching dimensions of approximately 600 x 800 mm. At its end effector, a lightweight servo motor operates a brush, moving it up and down while applying a consistent amount of pressure. The application of paint is performed manually, creating a collaborative artwork between myself and the robot. The robot's precise movements generate intricate patterns where different colors seamlessly merge. Simultaneously, the artwork retains an element of spontaneity due to the unpredictable flow of acrylic paint. This fusion of methodical robotic precision and the natural unpredictability of paint results in distinctive and compelling pieces of art.
